Should Hurst Teens Whiten Their Teeth?

    Hurst teeth bleaching

Getting a smile just like their favorite singer or movie star might be high on your teen’s priority list. However, you may want to talk with your Euless, North Richland Hills, or Hurst dentist before buying an at-home tooth whitening product.

As with any cosmetic dentistry procedure, teeth whitening should be overseen by a professional. There are a number of factors that can affect results such as an existing crown or teeth that have not yet erupted. Some medical conditions can cause teeth to darken. Your Hurst dentist can determine if a teen’s tooth stains are a symptom of an underlying condition.

It’s always a good idea to stress prevention over treatments, especially with kids. Make sure your Hurst teen is practicing proper oral health habits and help them understand that coffee, tea, cola, and energy drinks can stain their teeth. And if they need another reason not to smoke, remind them that tobacco products will destroy their beautiful smile along with their lungs. Lastly, warn them of the dangers of oral piercings which include tooth damage and infection.

If you or any member of your family decides to use an over-the-counter teeth whitener, be sure to follow the instructions exactly as the bleaching agents used can damage your mouth and gums.

    Bad Breath Is No Fun

Bad Breath Is No Fun For Hurst Residents Imagine you are starting a new job in Hurst and are going to communicate with your new boss for the first time. Confidence is key to your success. As you reach out to shake the extended hand your broad confident smile exposes rows of pearly white teeth, yet when you open your mouth to exchange greetings you worry about bad breath.

Perhaps your breath is not as a pleasant as you had hoped. Bad breath is a worry and possible embarrassment for many residents of Hurst, Texas. Regular dental checkups at Hyatt Family Dental can help alleviate your concern over bad breath. We have been addressing bad breath since 2011.

The technical term for bad breath is halitosis. Many factors can cause or contribute to halitosis. One of these factors is the food you eat. Onions and garlic are both known for having a potent affect on your breath. Simply observing the foods you eat here in Hurst can result in a change in your breath.

Bad breath frequently originates in your mouth. Transient bad breath can be resolved through eating or brushing, and is a temporary condition usually associated with a dry mouth. Persistent bad breath can be a serious problem affecting as much as 25 percent of our Hurst residents. Persistent bad breath can be caused by dry mouth, and is made worse when food is not cleared away properly.

Brushing and flossing daily is a key step in curing bad breath. Food particles can build up in your mouth and foster bacteria which can cause bad breath. This not only includes the food particles that may get stuck between your teeth, but also the food that collects around your gums or on your tongue. Brushing and flossing daily can help reduce the amount of food particles that stay in your mouth and cause bad breath. Regular visits to Hyatt Family Dental in Hurst can also reduce or eliminate the progression of bad breath.

Other factors to consider include dry mouth, tobacco use, and dangerous health concerns such as infections. Come visit Hyatt Family Dental located in Hurst, Texas; we’ll provide you with information about bad breath in a professional environment. Give us a call at 817-500-4228 to set up an appointment.

Been A While Since You’ve Visited A Dentist?

Hurst, Texas Residents Visit the Dentist Whether you have lived in Texas for a long time, or just moving in to the Hurst area; taking care of your teeth eventually involves a visit to the dentist. The very idea of visiting a dentist holds a negative connotation for many people. If you are an adult with dental anxiety, or your child is preparing to visit the dentist for the first time, here are a few tips that may help ease you into regular dental checkups and put you on the path toward increased oral health and wellness.

Choose a dentist in the Mid-Cities who is appropriate for your needs. When you meet your new Hurst dentist for the first time, make an effort to ask questions about the care you will receive. Be sure to communicate with your dentist about his/her experience, age range of patients, and recommended procedures for any issues you may have. Get to know your dentist so you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Be prepared to provide your dentist with information. Whether you are experiencing specific pain at that moment, or anticipating a problem, be sure to discuss everything with your dentist. Many patients become intimidated in the office environment and avoid expressing pain or discussing issues. As your dentist, I need to know your history and everything you are experiencing. I will be better prepared to help if I have accurate and complete information.

There is no need to feel self-conscious if it has been a long time since you have received dental treatment. I have treated many first-time patients in your situation and have developed a trusting relationship with them.

The best way to have a good experience with a new dentist is to communicate. Let me know what you are experiencing so that I can make adjustments and help you feel more comfortable and secure. If we determine that you are going to need a key dental procedure more extensive than filling a cavity, let’s discuss sedation dentistry.

At Hyatt Family Dental our friendly staff will work to make your dental experience a pleasant one. We know it can be uncomfortable to visit the dentist for the first time or after a long while. We’ll do what we can to make you feel relaxed, secure, and among caring friends.

    Root Canal vs Dental Implant

Euless root canals vs tooth implants

Hello Mid-Cities dental blog visitors. I am doctor Clinton Hyatt of Hyatt Family Dental. When a tooth’s nerve and pulp becomes infected, a dentist and patient must make a choice of whether to attempt to save the tooth by performing a root canal or to extract the tooth.

There are several factors that influence this decision. These include whether there is infection in the surrounding bone, the amount and condition of the remaining tooth structure, the strength of the supporting bone, and the presence of periodontal disease.

During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp of the tooth is removed. This tissue contains veins, arteries and lymph vessels. The dentist or endodontist uses files of various sizes to clean out the canals. Once the roots are cleaned out and widened, they are filled with a special rubber material that seals them off.

The root canal is the first step in the complete tooth restoration. After the root canal, without a crown, the tooth will probably become dry and brittle. The final steps are the core build-up and crown. This protects what’s left of the tooth and allows normal function.

A root canal is generally the most conservative treatment when a root is infected or a tooth has severe decay or damage. Root canals have been performed with success for generations and have a very low failure rate.

But there is always a slight possibility that a tooth with a root canal can have complications down the road. If there was a tiny crack in the treated tooth, it can become re-infected. Teeth with curved roots are more difficult to fill and they can also become re-infected. Occasionally, the tip of a file can break off in a root during the procedure and cause problems.

Because there is always a slight risk that a root canal can fail and eventually require extraction, some Hurst patients wonder if they should just get a dental implant in the first place. This is not a black and white decision. Like root canals, dental implants have a high success rate. But there are risks with dental implants, as well.

If you have been told that a root canal or a dental implant is required, talk with your dentist about the pros and cons of each procedure. If you do not currently have a dentist, I invite you to schedule a consultation at Hyatt Family Dental. You can trust Clinton Hyatt for vital, unbiased information so you can make an informed decision about your dental treatment.

You Can’t Afford Cheap Dental Work

    Hurst teeth whitening

Have you ever gotten a bargain on a used car that turned out to be a lemon? After a couple years of never-ending repairs, you realized that it ended up costing as much as a new car would have. And after spending all that money, you still have a a clunker.

The same is true of deficient dental work. You have probably received glossy postcard ads that publicize amazing deals on cosmetic dentistry: porcelain veneers, crowns, white fillings, and dental implants. The prices may be tempting, but be sure you do plenty of research before committing. We aren’t trying to imply that all dental practices that publicize low procedure prices in their ads furnish poor quality work – we are just cautioning patients not to decide on a cosmetic dentist based on price alone. Unlike an automobile, you can’t sell your smile and buy a new one.

We will use porcelain veneers as an example. What can go wrong if you end up with substandard porcelain veneers?

    • The dentist may be inexperienced and make mistakes: improper placement, inadequate color matching, bite complications.

    • The materials may be deficient: unnatural color, prone to breaking, veneers pop off.

    • The lab techs that create the restorations may turn out low quality work: unnatural color, poor fit.

If you are considering a smile transformation, talk to doctor Clinton Hyatt at Hyatt Family Dental first. During your consultation, you will learn about doctor Hyatt’s years of experience, techniques, specialty training, number of procedures performed, the most appropriate materials for the restorations, and information about the dental lab we use. We can also provide references if requested. And, of course, we will consider how much each process will cost. We are certain that you will find that our prices our competitive for the excellent dentistry doctor Hyatt delivers.

Don’t compromise your smile in an attempt to save some money. You really do get what you pay for.

3 Behind-The-Scenes Dental Advances For Texas

    Crown lengthening Bedford

Bedford dental patients who have undergone a smile redesign are probably aware of the latest cosmetic dental procedures popular in the Hurst area. These include metal-free fillings, porcelain veneers, invisible braces, implant-anchored dentures, and inlays/onlays.

Today’s Bedford dental post focuses on some nifty dentistry advances that are used behind-the-scenes to benefit Bedford dentists and dental patients alike.

Digital imaging is not just for Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest, many cutting-edge Texas dental offices use digital X-Rays. Realtime digital images help Hurst dentists more easily spot and treat oral problems including emerging cavities and bone recession. Digital X-Rays require far less radiation exposure and are easier to store and access.

Pinpoint-precise Diode lasers are used in myriad procedures including crown lengthening, root scaling, biopsies, root canals, teeth whitening, oral lesion removal, and treatment of dental decay. Laser procedures are easier on the patient and require shorter healing times.

CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) are used for many restorative procedures in Bedford including in-office inlays/onlays and same-day crowns. Hurst dentists who offer dental implants can use CAD/CAM technology in every phase of the dental implant procedure. CAD/CAM is used in Texas dental laboratories to fabricate crowns, bridges, veneers, and ceramic braces.

Hyatt Family Dental Takes Care Of Plaque, Calculus, And Cavities

Hurst Guide To Plaque, Calculus, And Cavities

Hi. I’m doctor Clinton Hyatt. Welcome to my Hurst dental blog! I find that many of my patients in the East Euless, North Richland Hills, and Bedford areas get a couple of dental terms mixed up. Today, I would like to clarify the differences between plaque, calculus, and cavities.

Plaque is a film that covers teeth – a sticky layer of bacteria. You can remove plaque through daily brushing and flossing. However, if it isn’t removed it can build up and harden into calculus.

Calculus, also known as tartar, is hardened plaque that also accumulates minerals from food and saliva. Regular check-ups and cleanings with your Hurst dentist are necessary to remove tartar as well as hard-to-reach plaque.

Plaque and calculus are not cavities, but they can lead to cavities. A cavity is basically a hole in the tooth caused by decay. Because plaque and calculus contain bacteria, the bacteria release acids which accelerate tooth decay and eventually lead to more cavities.

A good rule of thumb for Hurst dental patients is this: Avoid plaque to avoid calculus and tartar to avoid tooth decay to avoid cavities. Got it?

I hope you’ve found this helpful, and if you’re in the East Euless, North Richland Hills, or Bedford area and are in need of quality dental care, call our office at 817-500-4228 to schedule an appointment today.

Our friendly staff would love to answer any questions you have about our services, including cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, and veneers.
